Hello everyone, my name is Hannah. Welcome to a new recap video. Today I'm going to be recapping Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Mayor. So this is a grumpy sunshine workplace romance cozy fantasy following our main character Eevee Sage and she is down on her luck, needs to find a job, and ends up unintentionally getting the job as the assistant to the villain. So, this is a fairy tale kind of style uh humorous writing, great side characters with a bit of found family added to it.

  2. 0:36

It is a dual POV. So, we follow Eevee Evangelina Sage as our female main character. And then the other point of view that we get is the villains um whose name is Tristan Maverine, but commonly referred to as just the villain. So, we've got this map in the book as well. Not a whole lot really to it. Um, just kind of adds like a little touch to the book. Before getting into it, I do want to just put out the disclaimer that this will be an in-depth spoilery video. I'm basically going to go through the highlights and the bullet points of what happens in the story to recap everything. So, if you have not read this yet and you don't want to be spoiled, this is not the video for you.

  3. 1:21

If you are here because you want a recap, a summary of what happened in Assistant to the Villain, then this is the video for you. So, stay tuned. So, Eevee lives in this small village in the kingdom of Renadon, and she lives with her ailing father who's suffering from the mystic illness and her younger sister, Lisa. She did have an older brother at one point and her mother has gone. So, more on those two later. We start with Eevee needing to find a job.

  4. 1:52

She previously worked at a blacksmith um and has left her job. We don't really know the circumstances yet on that, but she's looking for a new job. She's walking through the forest and she finds this like wounded man who happens to be the villain. Um, and he's on the run from some of these guards who are after this character, Kingsley, who is a magical frog, wears a crown, um, and communicates using like little signs. He's right here on the front cover and also on the back. And because Eevee has now seen the villain and figured out who he is, uh, the villain decides, you know what, you need a job and I need you to not betray me because now you've seen my face. So he ends up giving her a job and bringing her back to Massacre Manor, which is his like castle layer, whatever you want to call it. Then we have a fivemonth time jump. So Eevee has been working for the villain as his personal assistant for 5 months now. And we meet

  5. 2:50

several of the side characters in quick succession. So we meet a character called Becky, Rebecca, um, who is kind of Eevee's like adversary. They do not get along. Becky's very type A personality. She's very like by the book, very strict. We also meet Tatiana, who is the like fortress's healer. She's a magical healer and she's Eve's friend. And we meet Blade Gushikin, who is the dragon trainer. So all this time, Eevee has been keeping it a secret that she works for the villain. And then while she's doing her job as the personal assistant, she's obviously been lusting after the villain because he's super hot. Um, and he has been trying to kind of not find her endearing and adorable.

  6. 3:32

She is given this magical like bargain ink on her pinky finger. It's gold. Everybody else's is green, but uh she has a gold one for some reason. And it's basically um like an employment bargain tattoo so that nobody can betray the villain or bring him harm. And then what is setting the plot into motion here is that there is a shipment of goods, stolen goods that was thwarted. And we find out that there is a traitor amongst the employees at the massacre manor. Um, and so they have to find out who the rat is. While at work one day, Eevee hears this mysterious ticking noise and so she goes to investigate. It's coming from the villain's office and it turns out that it is a bomb with only three minutes left on the clock and she is trying to figure out how to like get it away from as many people as possible so it causes the least amount of damage as possible because she can't figure out how to shut it off or like not have it

  7. 4:29

detonate. So she runs it outside onto this parapet, ends up getting her foot stuck between the stones and looks like she's basically going to get blown up by this bomb. But the villain arrives just in time to shield her from that. Um, and it blows up the parapit, but she ends up surviving with some a little bit of damage. Not going to lie. But she ends up surviving. The villain recognized the clock on the bomb. And so he takes Eevee to this tavern to meet Malcolm, who is actually the villain's brother, and he's like a clock maker. And he tells them, he's not really sure who he sold it to.

  8. 5:07

He can't remember. was just a man in a hood and he had like blue ink all over his hands. Those are the only details that he could remember. So then the villain Tristan takes Eevee to this magical ink maker, Clarissa, who is the villain's sister. She makes this like magical ink. Um, and she also cannot remember who she sold this blue magical ink to, but they do look at the ledger of like her sales and stuff. And they find out that whoever bought the ink signed it with the valiant guard sigil, which is basically the king's like guardsman. I also forgot to mention Clarissa Claire is also Tatiana's ex.

  9. 5:43

Then it is revealed that the villain actually worked with the king. So, we kind of know that they have a history, but we don't know what yet. So, more on that later. While Eevee is investigating the like employees to try to find out who the traitor is, she finds out that Blade, the dragon trainer, had an employment like contract letter um from the king and she confronts him about it. And he tells her that like his father used to work for the king and wanted a blade to work for the king and they found out about this dragon egg. And so the king like offered for him to like deal with the dragon basically and Blade didn't want it brought up in captivity.

  10. 6:26

So he ends up stealing the dragon egg and like keeps this like letter of employment from the king as a reminder of why he like stole the egg and fled. So it's all on the up and up, but it doesn't look like that. So Eevee tells Blade that he has to come clean to the villain and she takes the letter as like a you're going to tell him or I will kind of thing. But Becky ends up finding the letter um and sees Eevee like drop it. So they all assume that it was Eevee's letter of employment from the king. And so it kind of looks like maybe she was the traitor. So the villain gets kind of upset about that um and lashes out at her. And Eevee is really hurt by that, thinking like, how could he think that I would betray him and she ends up quitting on the spot. In the next few days, it's very clear that Massacre Manor does not run smoothly without Eevee. She has done her job very, very well. And without her, things are starting to fall apart and people are

  11. 7:25

realizing they really need Eevee back. It is at this point that Blade finally confesses to the villain that the letter was his. He explains the circumstances um and comes clean. And so then the villain feels kind of like an ass. Eevee does come back on her own and apologizes for acting brashly and quitting. Um the villain also apologizes for the things that he said to hurt her. Um and then she ends up getting her job back. We end up learning that Nura, Eevee's mother, had magic and was like playing with her magic with the kids out in this field one day when they were younger and accidentally ends up killing Eevee's older brother, Gideon. It's like I think he's like described as like bursts into a pillar of flame or something like that. Um, and then dies and Eve's mother leaves like soon after that. She drops um Eevee and Lisa, the little sister, back off at their like house and then takes off and then that's all we know

  12. 8:24

about her. So Blade ends up taking off the dragon who they have now named Fluffy. Um they take off his collar to kind of set him free to stop him from being super agitated and stuff. And inside this collar there is an engraving that says the villain will fall. And so the villain goes to the blacksmith who made the collar. And the blacksmith, as we know, was Eevee's former employer. So, they end up going to this blacksmith. Otto Warsended is his name.

  13. 8:54

He is scum. Um, and we find out that then that he kind of came on to Eevee. She rejected him and then he ended up like slashing her as she was running away with this magical dagger. And anytime she comes near that dagger, her shoulder like seizes in pain. So, that's not good. He does end up telling them though that it was one of the valiant guards that came to like commission this collar. Um, and that's like all the information he has and ends up trying to attack the villain as they are about to leave with the magical dagger. Of course, the villain stops him, crushes his wrist. Um, and that is what we assume the end of auto wars. Tristan manages to capture a gora, which is this like serpent like creature, kind of like a dragon because it has bat wings but not the same as a dragon. Um, and its breath is venomous. He's catching this

  14. 9:50

male gurra because it's mated. And the king has the female mate in captivity. And it's like this legend that if you if the male mate is in danger, the female will stop at nothing to come and rescue him. And so he thinks that if he captures this male mate that the female will break loose and come to him and he can capture both of them together. And that is exactly what happens. He captures the male and then the female breaks loose, comes to them and they capture her as well. We do have some thawing moments with Becky where it seems like they're not quite friends, but they're not quite, you know, hating each other anymore. Just some like, you know, maybe you're not as bad as I thought you were kind of things. Um, and we do learn that her grandma has the mystic illness as well. Later that day, Eevee gets a note delivered to her house. It's like an invitation to come to this celebration. It says, "Looking

  15. 10:47

for a cure, question mark." and it's to come to this like celebration hosted by the core healer. And so she is intrigued because obviously she wants to find a cure for the mystic illness for her father. And so she goes and Blade and Becky both also got invitations. So they go to this celebration hosted by the core healer who we then found find out is Arthur Maverine, which is Tristan's father. So we're meeting the whole fam.

  16. 11:15

Tristan and his father are like aranged. do not get along. But Arthur is kind of trying to mend things, it seems, with Tristan. And he tells Eevee that he was not the one to send those invitations. So, we don't know who sent those invitations. Tristan does show up to this celebration. Um, and Eevee thinks he's going to be mad and he's like not really that mad. Um, and they end up, of course, dancing together to a slow song. They weren't expecting it to be slow and it's just like this really cute moment between them. So, they end up dancing and talking and being cute, but then the male GRA arrives and wres havoc on the party. Um, and it's clear that his like chain was cut by somebody. So, he was like let loose, not he broke loose.

  17. 11:59

During all of this, Tristan ends up getting knocked unconscious and his father is taken as the valiant guard assumes that his father is actually the villain. The core healer is the villain. So they take him into custody and then Eevee tries this like ruse of pretending that you know she's like got her monthly cycle or whatever to get the valiant guard to let them leave this like holding area they have them in and um Tristan ends up starting to wake up and in order for him to like not ruin her ruse she kisses him because she was pretending he was her husband um and he obviously is like waking up and like going to cause destruction and ruin her little ruse. up. She kisses him and he thinks it's a dream and it's very cute.

  18. 12:43

As they escape, the villain is realizing comes to the realization that he is in love with Eevee and vows that he will never tell her. You know, one of those like she's too good for me kind of things. I don't want to like I'm the villain and I can't I can't be with her kind of thing. Tatiana and Claire are trying to help Eevee overcome this like magical dagger wound thing. Um, and they basically do this like immersion therapy with her where they bring her close to the dagger and she has to like overcome the pain on her own um to kind of desensitize her to it. So, they're doing that. When Eevee goes home, she discovers a letter from her mother in her father's room. Um, it's like asking basically to see the kids again and she says, "All my love, Nura." Um, so we don't know what's going on there. We do learn that Eevee's like pinky employment tattoo is not just an employment tattoo that's gold. Um like everybody else's is green, but it's actually a protection

  19. 13:41

charm on it. Um so that the villain can sense when she's in danger. So that's why he's like always seems to know when she's in trouble. Then we are getting to the climax of the story here. We find out that the man who bought the blue ink and is the traitor is the reason why all of the villain's plans have been thwarted thus far was none other than Griffin Sage, Eevee's father. So, he used that magical blue ink to like give her this like pen with this magical blue ink where anything she writes down in her notebook he can view. And so he's basically been spying on her since she started working for the villain. Um, we also find out that he's the reason why Otto like came on to her, the blacksmith, um, and was going to make a deal with him, like he could be with Eevee in exchange for like certain things. So basically, her father sucks.

  20. 14:37

Um, Eevee knew all about this before coming home and gave him his medicine for the mystic illness, which he doesn't actually have. He lied about that, too, so that he could be like an undercover spy for the king. Um, and she found out about all of that and gave him his medicine, but it was actually a seditive. So, he gets knocked unconscious and Tristan arrives um, and is going to take Eevee and Lisa, the little sister, back to Massacre Manor. Obviously, Eevee feels very betrayed by her father. She's like reeling from it all. We do learn that Tristan was an apprentice to the king at one point where the king said he was going to help him learn about his magic. And uh so Tristan's like learning about his magic and the king ends up like turning on him and having him arrested and says your magic's too dangerous and like throws him in the dungeon. Obviously he managed to escape and then he vowed if the king thinks I'm a villain then that's exactly what I'm going to be. And so that's the like that's how their little story went

  21. 15:36

there. And then when they're walking back to Maser Manor, they get ambushed by some valiant guard and the king. The king uses these cuffs on Tristan so that his magic is dulled and he's going to take Tristan in and like take it to the dungeon basically. And he wants the mated gasras for some reason. We don't quite know why yet, but the king commissioned those cuffs from Otto and says that he can have Eevee and he just the king just wants her body back when he's done with her. So he takes Tristan away, leaves Eevee with Otto and these two valiant guards, and Eevee manages to use the magical dagger that she's had with her to like stop the pain in her shoulder. She ends up using that to kill Otto. But that leaves her with those two valiant guards. Then one of the guards turns on the other, kills the other guard with no explanation, just gets on

  22. 16:35

his horse and rides away. So she's like, "Um, what?" So she's left alone then in the forest and the villain is taken into custody and so she returns to Maser Manor and we are left the ending of the book is her plotting how to get Tristan back. So yeah, there you have it. That is the recap for Assistant to the Villain. So that's, you know, the highlights, the bullet points of the the story there. So, if you are trying to go into the second book or maybe even the third book, I hope that this recap helped you. I do plan to do another in-depth detailed recap for the second book.
